Afterlift

Janice Chen thinks she's just picking up another rideshare fare when her passenger, Dumu, reveals he needs a living driver to ferry a recently deceased soul named Suzanna into the afterlife — modern rideshare apps having replaced the traditional horse and chariot. A fresh soul in transit draws demons looking to claim her before she crosses over, trapping Janice in a increasingly dangerous, claustrophobic odyssey through the supernatural underside of her own city.

Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo use the intimate, mostly-silent space of a rideshare car as the setting for a horror-tinged afterlife story about death and what people carry with them.
