Synopsis

Tennessee Cherish used to make documentaries. Now she stays home with her two young children, and the house her husband bought for her is meant to mark a fresh start. They have moved to a new town, with new schools and a long list of chores that eat her days.

Her husband is rarely there because of his new, well-paid job, and Tenn feels lonelier than before. The children begin to act out in strange ways. Small oddities pile up unnoticed: a faucet that runs at all hours, a creepy doll that turns up in every room, a human tooth found in the floorboards.

As the outbursts and the odd events escalate, the family gets caught in loops, repeating ordinary actions with consequences that turn dangerous and then devastating. Tenn has to work out what is haunting them before it kills them all. The question hanging over her is whether the fault lies in the house or in herself.

This is a haunted house horror novel told through a mother's eyes, with a twisty plot and a scary, uncomfortable tone. It also looks hard at what domestic life and motherhood demand of women, and at the different ways a family can be haunted.
