Synopsis
In the final months of his life, the English Romantic poet John Keats strikes up an unlikely friendship with Giuseppe Gioacchino Belli, a Roman poet of the vulgar, dialectal tradition. Burgess dramatizes their encounters in Rome and Rome's outskirts, and the book concludes with a translation of Belli's blasphemous sonnets. A work of erudite literary fiction and poetry.
