Synopsis

Meet Zien, a man unlike any other, who greeted the world with laughter instead of a cry and whose peculiar appearance sets him apart. With only two teeth and a face devoid of hair, his long neck and limbs earn him the nickname 'Giraffe' from local boys. Despite his unusual looks, Zien possesses an infectious, donkey-like laugh that can transform any gathering into a chorus of mirth. Set in a Sudanese village and blending literary fiction with magical realism, Tayeb Salih's novella follows the life of this extraordinary character, whose very existence challenges the ordinary, culminating in a wedding no one saw coming.
