A world of strangers
Toby, a young Englishman, moves to Johannesburg to work for his family's business and finds himself drawn into the vibrant, dangerous world of the black townships through his friendship with Steven, a charismatic Black man. As their bond deepens, the novel exposes the brutal realities of apartheid and the racial divisions enforced by the state. The story follows both men across years of upheaval, culminating in a tragic turn that forces Toby to confront the true cost of the system he once took for granted.
