A Woman of Pleasure

In 1903 Kumamoto, Japan, fifteen-year-old Aoi Ichi is sold to a prestigious brothel and becomes the protegee of the highest-ranking courtesan, Shinonome. Ichi learns about the power of sex and money, and through her education, she finds her own voice within the brothel's strict world. As worker strikes stir outside, Ichi and her fellow courtesans consider how they might challenge the brothel's hierarchy and redistribute its wealth.
