I was very excited about this book, counting the days until its release day and I finally got to read it. (I read it the day it came out I just forgot the review).
The characters were very sweet, they felt very real and I could connect with their stories, struggles and emotions. I even liked the side characters, like Mariel’s friends. My favorite was Ozroth, trying to figure out his new emotions and overwhelming sensations on earth.
“Having a soul it’s terrible”
It took me a bit to connect with the writing and the world, while I was reading Oz’s pov I was a bit confused on why he was so modern and I assume it was more an inconsistency than something on purpose, and it wasn’t until later that you get to know more about the demon realm and its connection to the mortal world. It’s an urban fantasy world and maybe it’s just me but when pixies, demons, witches and other paranormal creatures coexist with humans (especially when it’s mentioned that it was not always like this, like it was some revelation to the humans) I always want to know more about it, it’s not completely explained but I understand it’s also a light read and not a full fantasy series. It’s also a bit predictable, but in general it was entertaining and fun.
Even though Astaroth was the villain in this series I was intrigued by him, so I was jumping over rooftops cause we got a piece of the next book beginning and it’s Calladia and Astaroth book.
"Admirable '' Astaroth had once said. “ We could stand to learn a few things about ruthless manipulation and one sided bargains from American healthcare insurers''
Boy, let me take you to my third-world country, you will be thrilled. You’ll learn about corruption, insecurity, violence and get new ideas for torture.
So, to end this review, some quotes I highlighted because they made me laugh.
“There’s a concept in the demon plane I’m not sure you’ve heard of. It’s called dignity”
“Then Marie Kondo that s•••”
