A very good historical book. Are some things that try to be a mystery but, if you have experience, you can see them from the beginning, so aren't a mystery at all. But, oh, well, that didn't affect my enoyment.
I like the idea of seeing the viking looting from the POV of a Monk, since nowadays, vikings are very romanticized, even tho, in reality, were murderers, rapists, looters... Seeing the other point of view, in this case from the Christian victims of what is now Great Britain, has been a breath of fresh air.
The warrior group we have here is very nice: we have two Northumbrian (British), one Norseman, one Hibernian (Irish), one Welshman and one Pict (Scottish).
SPOILER AHEAD:
My only complaint is that there's a slight lack of emotion surrounding the loss of a friend. It should be a shocking and painful moment, but the battle makes that impossible. I would have liked a bit more emotion, but oh well, that's just personal taste.
