Synopsis

A Passage North is a literary novel set in post-civil-war Sri Lanka, following a young Tamil man's journey north to attend the funeral of a woman who cared for his grandmother — the story is a meditation on memory, trauma, and the slow process of reconciliation after decades of ethnic conflict. The novel's elegiac, reflective tone is punctuated by moments of tension as Krishan navigates a scarred landscape and confronts the ghosts of the war's aftermath. The slow, deliberate pace and dense prose reflect a story built on interiority rather than plot, and the book's quiet, forward-looking ending offers a rare note of hope in a narrative otherwise steeped in loss.
