Synopsis

Etsuko, a Japanese woman living alone in England, grapples with the recent suicide of her daughter. She retreats into memories of a hot summer in Nagasaki, when she and her friends rebuilt their lives after the war. As she recalls a strange friendship with Sachiko, a wealthy woman reduced to vagrancy, these memories begin to take on a disturbing cast.
