Synopsis

Ambassador Mahit Dzmare has come to Teixcalaan, the interstellar capital of the vast Teixcalaanli Empire, to take up the post her predecessor once held — only to discover, on arrival, that he is dead, and that almost no one will admit his death wasn't an accident. Carrying an outdated, partially broken imago-machine holding a copy of his memories, Mahit must uncover who killed him and why, all while navigating the empire's seductive, treacherous court and trying to keep her small home station, Lsel, from being swallowed by the very civilization she has come to both love and fear.
