A Man of the People

A Man of the People
Synopsis
Odili Samalu, a young idealistic teacher in an unnamed post-colonial African nation, watches his former teacher Chief Nanga rise to power as a corrupt, populist government minister. When personal rivalry pulls Odili into opposition politics against Nanga, Chinua Achebe traces how easily principle curdles into ambition on both sides, in a satire that anticipated the coups that would follow its publication across the continent.
