A Lost Cause
Synopsis
A Lost Cause is a dark fantasy short story set in the world of Mike Shackle's The Last War trilogy, which comprises We Are the Dead, A Fool's Hope and Until the Last. It is a short coda rather than a novel, and it returns to Yas, one of the trilogy's survivors, after the fighting has stopped.
The war is over. Yas wants nothing more than to live in peace with her son and forget the things she had to do to survive it.
But this is Jia, where the Four Gods are cruel and nothing is truly forgiven. Yas's enemies are still alive, and they will have their vengeance in this life or the next.
Brief and bleak, and pitched at readers who already know what Yas did to get through the war rather than at newcomers to the series.
