While A Darker Shade Of Magic was all action, this book was more world-setting.

I missed the fast pace of the first one, but I enjoyed knowing more of the world in which the story takes place and the characters that play a part in it.

This book felt like an episode of a series in which nothing really happens until the the end and you have to watch the next one.
