Novik's deadly version of Hogwarts is such a treat to read. I would say it's more horror than fantasy with a good dose of high-school drama that kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how the heroine was going to sail through those turbulent waters. Suffice to say, she did it masterfully and quickly became one of my all-time favourite characters.
There were some glaring pitfalls on the author's part (that dreadlock passage made me cringe so hard, I don't know how no one pointed it out during the editing process). But since then, she has made her excuses and tried to rectify her errors, so I'm willing to let it go in favour of continuing to enjoy this wonderful world.
