This wasn’t at all how people claimed it would be when i decided to read this book.
The only thing i have to say is : this author is better off writing fantasy and action alone but no romance.
Yep, i said it.
I did start reading this book because from the summary of it and from what people said i believed it would be this heartwarming romance in the middle of fantasyland, but no.
Now I’m not really into fantasy, it just never been my favorite genre, but sometimes, with certain books, i can get into it and actually enjoy it.
The beginning of the story was really catchy, the events and how they were described from the way she goes on the hunt and then what happens in details, to her family and the way they treat her and then the encounter with the mercenary… all of it was good.
Then moving into the transition from being in the cottage to the entry to Prythian, the emotional whirlwind, the stubbornness of Feyre and her insistence on finding a way to leave and get back to her family, her strong and sharp persona, hard-hearted, dog-headed… all was good as well and made a good potential for the story.
Suddenly we went from her being stubborn and wanting to leave, hating the guts of everyone and being snappy and always misunderstanding every single thing they say to her, to slowly accepting her fate and starting, key word STARTING, to be civil with Tamlin and Lucien, we see this through the bits of conversations that they have, the slow humour slowly finding its way into their conversations and daily encounters … now still we can accept this.
But then..
Out of the blue we go from the slow paced story (mind you when i say slow paced im talking about the romantic aspect of it bc while their relationship was slowly developing the author made sure to respect the development of the fantasy plot line bc the way she adds more information about the story the plot the characters was all good, not perfect but good) to her suddenly feeling raged at the mentions of other women he’s been with and wanting to jump his bones.. like how ? When ? Why?😭
(“You drove me mad” he growled, and the sound trembled drown my neck, along my breasts until they ached.) … do i even ? This is a clear scene about being sexually harrassed because even though she told him to let go and stay away he continued his whatever the f••• the author was sexy and ignored that and on top of that did some weird almost like a mating bite thing and it’s like “oh i don’t like this he’s not the tamlin i know im uncomfortable but im feeling horny.” Ew.
first of all CRINGEEEEE (i am an avid romance lover and i love the morally grey men in fiction who make you feel all these butterflies and just sigh BUT I AM ALSO AN AVID SLOW BURN LOVER NOT JUMP INTO WHATEVER THIS IS LITERALLY TWO CHAPTERS AFTER THEY JUST STARTED BEING NICE TO EACH OTHER) and wtf is trembling down my neck and breasts until they ached 😀?
(“I should hate him for his stupid ritual, for the female he’s been with tonight.”) please i wheezed here .. it’s like reading about a childish character wanting to describe jealousy in the stupidest ways.
(“I couldn’t help it. Didn’t even try to fight the red-hot temper that razed my senses. “Faerie pig !” i yelled.)
Again not delivering the message of this uncontrollable unjustified frustration the way the author probably thought it was and plus? Why this f••• is this girl being so goddamn childish with her not respecting anyone and just doing whatever the f••• comes on her mind yet miss sarah wants to paint her as this mature woman ???? No the f••• she’s not.
(“And miss a chance to show off to a beautiful woman?”) oh lord save me from this, absolutely cringe worthy.
(“Rage hit me, low and deep in the gut at the thought of them—rage at their titles, their undoubtedly good looks, at their closeness to him”.) I’m sorry but what is this ?
As someone who reads romance on a daily basis and I’ve seen the good and the bad of it, I can proudly say that this just shows me that the author was never “a romance author” bc there are certain ways to go about writing jealousy scenes and this was not it and maybe it’s because i already have a bad impression due to the sudden change of dynamics that didn’t do any good to the plot that i’m being like this with my comments but it’s just how it is and im sure lots would agree with me.
Im still not done with this book and i might even stop because it’s too much and better books are sitting on my tr shelf waiting to be devoured, but so far, i can’t agree with people that hyped this at all.
Sarah J Maaj ? Please stop including romance into your books, just stick to what you do best.
