A Counterfeit Betrothal

Georgia, 1813. Scout Jared Lockridge patrols the frontier against Creek forces allied with the British, working to secure a home he can bring his betrothed to. Then he finds a burning cabin and Esther Andrews, freshly widowed by a fatal shot and freed from a cruel marriage. Esther agrees to winter at the Lockridge homestead to help Jared's pregnant sister-in-law — but as the frontier war closes in, a counterfeit betrothal begins to feel like something real.
