Synopsis

A Blink of the Screen collects Terry Pratchett's shorter fiction into a single volume for the first time, spanning work written across his whole career. It is organized into two parts: stories set outside Discworld, and stories set within it.

The non-Discworld section reaches back to pieces written in his schooldays and during his early years as a journalist on the Bucks Free Press, showing the roots of ideas that later grew into novels such as The Carpet People. The Discworld section turns to the sprawling comic-fantasy setting that made him one of the best-loved fantasy authors of his generation.

Framed by an introduction from A.S. Byatt and enriched with illustrations by Josh Kirby and Pratchett's own drawings, the collection works both as an entry point and as a treat for existing fans. As an anthology, it is best read in pieces.
