Rookie Readers

Rookie Readers — printed on the books themselves as "A Rookie Reader" — is Children's Press / Scholastic's beginning-reader line for ages 5-7, which has introduced children to independent reading for more than a generation. It is a publisher's imprint line rather than a story sequence: each title is a standalone story by its own author, and the books are graded into colour-coded reading levels (A, B and C) marked on the back cover and supported by a word list inside, with Level B running longer than Level A and using more words and longer sentences. The titles carry no series numbers, so there is no reading order — a reader chooses a level, not a next book.
