Frequently asked questions
What is the recommended reading order for the Malazan World series?
The main series, The Malazan Book of the Fallen, is best read in publication order. However, there are also prequel series and companion novels by Steven Erikson and Ian C. Esslemont that expand the world and can be integrated after completing the core ten books, or read in their own internal publication order.
Are there other series connected to the Malazan Book of the Fallen?
Yes, there are several other series set in the Malazan world. Steven Erikson has written the Kharkanas Trilogy and the Witness Trilogy, while Ian C. Esslemont has contributed the Novels of the Malazan Empire and the Path to Ascendancy series, all of which explore different aspects and timelines of the same universe.
Is there a TV show or movie adaptation of the Malazan series?
As of my last update, there is no confirmed film or television adaptation of The Malazan Book of the Fallen or any other series within the Malazan World.
What makes the Malazan series unique among epic fantasy?
The Malazan series is known for its vast scope, complex world-building, and large cast of characters, often introducing new perspectives and plotlines without extensive exposition, requiring readers to piece together the narrative. It frequently explores themes of compassion, war, and the nature of power through multiple philosophical lenses.
