Gintama

Set in an alternate-history Edo period where aliens have conquered Japan, this irreverent manga series follows an eccentric samurai running an odd-jobs business. It masterfully balances absurd, fourth-wall-breaking comedy with surprisingly serious action arcs and social commentary on modernization. Readers looking for a genre-blending science fiction graphic novel with a chaotic yet deeply loyal cast of characters will find this highly entertaining.
