The Cthulhu Mythos
The Cthulhu Mythos explores cosmic horror, where ancient, alien entities threaten humanity's sanity. These stories present a world where the unknown is truly terrifying, and human understanding is fragile against vast, indifferent powers.
The Cthulhu Mythos is not a linear series with a strict reading order. Many stories can be enjoyed as standalone pieces, but some readers prefer to start with H.P. Lovecraft's foundational works like "The Call of Cthulhu" or "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" to grasp the core concepts before exploring contributions from other authors.
While there isn't a single definitive film or TV series adapting the entire Cthulhu Mythos, numerous films, short films, and animated features have drawn inspiration from or directly adapted individual stories within the Mythos, often with varying degrees of faithfulness.
The Cthulhu Mythos is essentially the overarching framework that connects many of H.P. Lovecraft's most famous stories, featuring recurring entities, locations, and themes that establish a shared cosmic horror universe across his bibliography.
Beyond H.P. Lovecraft, many authors have expanded the Cthulhu Mythos, including August Derleth, Robert Bloch, Clark Ashton Smith, and Ramsey Campbell, each adding their unique perspectives and entities to the shared universe.
