About this series
The umbrella for DC Comics' Batman line — the self-titled ongoing that began in Spring 1940, together with its collected editions, limited series, crossovers, Elseworlds and prose tie-ins, gathered here across every era, format and language. Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (1939): Bruce Wayne, a Gotham City millionaire who works as a masked detective and vigilante, supported by Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon and successive Robins, and opposed by a rogues gallery including the Joker, Two-Face, the Penguin, the Riddler, Ra's al Ghul, Scarecrow and Poison Ivy. Individual storylines and runs are filed in the sub-series beneath this one. The line is ongoing.

Frequently asked questions
What is the correct reading order for Batman: The Long Halloween series?
The core story begins with "Batman: The Long Halloween," followed by "Batman: Dark Victory," and concludes with "Catwoman: When in Rome." While each can be enjoyed individually, reading them in this sequence provides the full narrative arc of the holiday-themed mysteries.
Are there any adaptations of Batman: The Long Halloween?
The series has been adapted into a two-part animated film, "Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One" and "Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two," which closely follow the comic book storyline.
How does Batman: The Long Halloween connect to other Batman stories?
This series is considered a foundational story in the Batman mythos, heavily influencing later interpretations of Batman's early career and the origins of many of his iconic villains. It serves as a spiritual prequel to "Batman: Year One" in terms of its focus on a less experienced Dark Knight.
