About
Vittorio Bodini (1914-1970) was an Italian poet, Hispanist and translator, born in Bari and raised in Lecce. He was one of Italy's foremost translators of Spanish literature, best known for his 1957 Italian translation of Cervantes' "Don Quixote" for Einaudi's "Millenni" series, still regarded as a benchmark version of the novel in Italian.
He also translated Federico García Lorca's theatre, and works by Luis de Góngora, Francisco de Quevedo, Rafael Alberti and Pablo Neruda, and held the chair of Spanish Literature at the University of Bari. His own poetry collections include "La luna dei Borboni" (1952) and "Dopo la luna" (1956), for which he won the Premio Carducci.
